Once a popular staple among the Michigan coastline, the over 200 Michigan lighthouses helped to guide a number of sailors through some of the most horrific weather in the Great Lakes region. Now with a little over 100 left, many of these are simply just not used. This however does not diminish the importance that these have had on the history of Michigan even today; their towering presence is still more than enough to draw attention to the greatness that these represent to the people of Michigan.

In addition, while the ones that are not being used are no longer part of the system to alert sailors, this does not mean that a great number of these are still not used for alternative housing. Many people have used these to be their new homes, while others have been converted into schoolhouses. With the current movement that is going on to conserve many of these lighthouses, this has ensured that these lighthouses will be a part of the Michigan coastline for a great number of years down the line.
All of these are a huge part of the Michigan history and have helped to shape the state into what it is today. As the years progress, there will continue to be a movement to save the lighthouses that used to guide sailors home for a great number of decades. This will help to ensure that this will remain a part of the culture that has made Michigan a state like no other.
