The Vermont Windmill Point Lighthouse is outside of Alburg. It rests on the shores of Lake Champlain and has been there for several centuries. Residents wait for the proof of a creature called Champ. Champ is a legendary creature that inhabits the lake. It has captured the public’s imagination just like the Loch Ness monster has. It is a similar type creature. It also is just as likely to not exist, but it is a fun, imaginative possibilty. A number of local pictures claim to show Champ, but it is uncertain if he has ever visited the lighthouse!

Because the lighthouse and the property it sits on are privately maintained, there are not as many efforts to save it. Because it rests on the shore of a lake rather than on an ocean, there is less of a chance of it succumbing to rising sea levels. The ocean levels would have to rise considerably before this lighthouse is affected. It may happen, but it is not likely to happen in the next few years.
There are many people who come to view the Vermont Windmill Point Lighthouse from a distance. The building and the area have a certain New England charm. Tourists who go to the area in the fall can even experience the autumnal foliage. Of course, many people do not have to go to New England to see the leaves change color, but the trees, hills, mountains and lakes help someone experience the charm of the region. The state also has a fair number of granite quarries. Travelers who go to the area in the winter can experience some of the finest skiing that the east coast has to offer. There are plenty of restaurants and other attractions to visit in the area. There are other lighthouses in the Alburg, Vermont area which make great destinations.
The Vermont Windmill Point Lighthouse in Vermont is a privately owned lighthouse. Even though it is a United States Coast Guard aid to navigation, it is not currently open to the public. The tower is 40 meters and its focal point is 52 meters. Its beam flashes every four seconds. The owner may not be able to take a tour of the building, but that does not mean he cannot see it. He can take a look on the outside of the building. Visitors should remember to respect the property and not wander onto the property unless they are invited. The lighthouse functions as someone’s home.
